  • Agencies working with adults and students on workforce training, internships and job placement
  • K-12 educators and/or counselors focused on careers, career placement
  • Chambers of Commerce / Economic Development from southern Ohio
  • Workforce training providers serving southern Ohio
  • Case managers or team leads of people working with special populations of adults such as treatment, courts, incarceration, and others
  • People in the community, churches, volunteers, school boards, county commissioners, and others

8:15 – 9:00 Networking & Registration

9:00-9:15 – Opening Remarks & Overview of the Day

9:15-10:00– A Conceptual Model for GRIT 3.0-Opportunity Mindset

10:00-10:15 Break

10:15 – 11 KeynoteRenee Parsons will present inspiration and stories from the principles of Ruby Payne’s framework for understanding poverty, called Bridges Out of Poverty. Renee Parsons is a consultant from aha? Process Inc, a Ruby Payne Company.

11:00 – Noon Panel discussion – Building the Appalachian Workforce: How Data Meets Opportunity

Noon- 1:00 Working Lunch -Speed Learning

Connecting Youth & Adults to Critical Career Pathways (Round table discussion)

Participants will be able to participate in follow-up dialogues with agency leaders who are providing pathways to opportunity through both job training and linkages to internships and jobs. Career Pathways include:

  • Healthcare
  • Construction
  • Manufacturing
  • Trades
  • Critical local infrastructure such as water & sewer, etc.

1 – 2 PM Breakout One

Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a 50-minute breakout session (Select One)

  • Best Practices for Working With Seniors Without a Plan
    (Introduction
    to Summer Workforce Training Programs for Youth)
  • GRIT Resources for Public Schools – K-12
  • Finding Solutions for Out-Of-School Youth (Ages 18-24)
  • Brainstorming Workforce Strategies for SNAP-EBT Recipients who are Able-Bodied Adult Without Dependents (ABAWD)
  • Workforce Best Practices for Adults Connected to the Judicial System & Treatment
  • Getting Your Community on Track – Small-Town Recovery
