What is a career coach?

A career coach partners with students and job seekers of all ages in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Coaches honor each individual as the expert in their own life and work and believe each individual is creative, resourceful and whole.

Standing on this foundation, the coach’s responsibility is to:

  • Help clarify, and align with what individuals want to achieve

  • Encourage self-discovery

  • Elicit solutions and strategies

  • Hold each individual responsible and accountable

How do I become a coach?

To become a coach in the GRIT project you must:

  • Contact the GRIT coordinator via this form to gain access to the training code.

  • Take the individual assessment on - 3 hours

  • Create a coach training account on and complete the following:

      • Watch introductory video regarding GRIT and coaching – 30 minutes

      • Complete the exercise “Construct your Career Story” - 2 hours

      • Complete the emotional intelligence self-assessment – 30 minutes

      • Complete coach training modules 1-7 – 7 hours

NOTE *This is a volunteer position. All coaching will be delivered through virtual tools. All coaches are required to pass a background check prior to beginning.
