Stats & Figures

“I took the assessment and it not only supported the previous career that I had… but then has led me to being a GRIT program manager working with special populations.”

Brandi Hawthorne, The GRIT Project

Assessments This School Year

Students take the Future Plans Career assessment which identifies their strengths, interests, personality, and work values, and then explore careers that are a fit for them. Each student meets one-on-one with a career coach to discuss their results and potential career paths, with the end goal of developing a career plan. Below is a list of schools in each county which are planning assessments for the 2023-24 school year.

County Highlights

Pike:

  • Construction Underway for Pike Western Schools Career Development Center

Contractors are making great progress on the construction of the Western Local Schools Career Development Center.  The trusses and lumber have been delivered, and the concrete floor is poured, complete with plumbing. Western Local is committed to promoting this great opportunity, and their school programming has already changed to incorporate this modern career center!

We are only a couple of months away from the opening ceremony!! With the help of GRIT, new doors are ready to be opened and new opportunities for our community are a reality – not just a dream!!

– Brock Brewster, Superintendent
Western Local School District

Jackson:

  • Rio Grande Jackson Center hosted EKG classes with certification as part of the summer youth workforce training opportunities in healthcare.

Ross:

  • The Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center hosted training in robotics and Six Sigma Yellow Belt to offer certifications for the summer youth workforce training opportunities in manufacturing.

Vinton:

  • Rio Grande McArthur Center hosted phlebotomy classes with certification as part of the summer youth workforce training opportunities in healthcare.

As the Executive Director of Pike Outreach, I speak for our entire organization when I say that our partnership with the GRIT project will truly be life changing for many in Pike County. The vast majority of local jobs in the area are centered on a factory setting which may not be the best fit for everyone. This partnership will not just provide virtual work spaces to those in Pike County, but will, in fact, open up countless new employment pathways to our community outside of a factory setting. In addition to the increased diversity of employment options, the space will also be utilized by our local behavioral health agency to offer telehealth services and life skills training that may otherwise be out of reach for clients living in more rural areas of our county.
